Description

Arranged by The Coastside Horse Council

For anyone who wants to get some desensitization of riding on the beach sign up to participate in one of our beach clinics sessions to be held on second Sundays in February, March and April. (Feb. 14, March 14, April 11). Staging for the clinic will be at the trailer section of the Poplar Beach Parking lot.

Sessions are limited to two riders each. For each day we will have 3 sessions with a total of 6 riders for the day. Sessions for each day will be at 9:30 – 11:30, 12 – 2:00, 2:30 to 4:30. All clinics are free of charge!

Each session will be limited to 2 first time riders. Participants who have completed one session and will be riding the same horse can sign on as a third rider. You must be 18 years or older and the owner of the horse you ride at the clinic.

The format and personnel involved in the clinic will be the same as our first clinic. That is you will be accompanied throughout the session by 5-6 experienced beach riders on experienced beach horses. This has proven to be a very calming influence and so far all riders have achieved the goals they set for themselves at the beginning of the clinic.

Good equestrian presence and conduct on the our beaches will assure that we will enjoy these rides long into the future.

1. The purpose of the clinic is to teach the tools needed to cope with any new/frightening situation.
2. Success will be measured in increments. Horse and rider can progress at their own pace. We are trying to expand the horse and rider's comfort zone, not necessarily get down on the beach the first day. For instance in some cases success will be when the horse is comfortable riding on the bluffs above the beach. Riders will have the option of signing up for a follow-up clinic..
3. Water contact will not be part of the clinic, although we may ride on wet sand.
4. Schedules will be staggered so that only 2 participants are mounted for each class.
5. Participants are asked to be comfortable at the walk, trot and canter (although on the beach we will stay at a walk).
6. If your horse is very buddy sour, we ask that you split up the appointment so that the two buddies are not accessing the beach together.
7. No one will be asked to do anything that makes them uncomfortable. Any participant can stop at any time. Similarly, instructors may ask participants to stop at a point that is comfortable for the rider and horse.
8. Participants must be 18 years and older and must stipulate that they are owners of the horse.
