The Woodside-area Horse Owners Association is delighted and pleased to announce their choice for its Hall of Fame Award to longtime resident and horsewoman, Carol Goodstein. Her lifelong passion for all horses started at age 7. In high school, she became more involved with horses at Lowell High School where she was the riding manager for the after school sports program at St. Francis stables.

The Woodside-area Horse Owners Association is especially delighted this year to name to its Hall of Fame one of our most distinguished Peninsula residents: Lawrence W. (Bill) Lane of Portola Valley. Not only is he the recipient of accolades, awards, and honors far too numerous to mention, he is equestrian extraordinaire – for he has continually championed the overriding importance of horses in preserving and maintaining the rural environments still existing on the Peninsula, primarily in Woodside and Portola Valley.  

Horses and kids—one of Mother Nature’s most inspiring and successful partnerships! Another inspiring and successful partnership is found at Woodside’s Kiely Equestrian Center where Kathi Dancer and Marty Raynor work together sharing the many responsibilities of the Junior Riders Program. With Kathi as Horse Manager and Marty, Program Manager, they procure, maintain and organize horses, ponies, tack, volunteers and donations to provide mounts, instruction and horse show experience to one hundred youngsters each and every summer!

WHOA! Is delighted to present its annual Hall of Fame Award to Bob O’ Neil. A resident of Woodside since 1967, Bob has been constantly involved with horses and various facets of the trails and the horse activities of Woodside.

One of the few locals who actually saw Seabiscuit race at Bay Meadows, Bob was recently interview by KRON on his impressions of the day’s experiences. The interview formed part of documentary which focused on Seabiscuits’ having San Francisco-based “roots”. Maybe some of you saw it.

Ursula Eisenhut has been a tireless advocate for horses, barns, and trails ever since moving to Woodside in 1959, but her most significant contribution to the equestrian community was as organizer, chairman, and all around den mother of the Junior Riders for 42 years. The Junior Riders program has introduced many a youngster to the lifelong joy of riding and owning horses, and it remains a much anticipated and beloved summer program for kids with and without horses of their own.
