Community Leadership - Woodside Trails Appreciation Award
East Bay Conservation Corps – Civicorps Schools 2007

In 1983, the East Bay Concervation Corps was founded, and is the oldest and largest regional urban corps in California. A national model for other corps and an international model for eductaion, EBCC has changed the lives of thousands of youth and young adults by furnishing job, life, academic, and citizenship skills through environmental-service projects.

Because the programs and services have grown beyond the East Bay they are changing their name to "Civicorps Schools" which illustrates the goals or promoting civic responsibility, service-learning, and eductation.

The mission of Civicorps Schools is to promote citizenship and build civil society bt creating eductational models that draw upon the power or service as a way of learning.

We first engaged EBCC to improve the Crystal Springs Trail from Raymundo into huddart Park. They did such a great job that we asked then to work on the Oakhill trail, which again was done well. They are currently working on the Bear Bulch Trail in Teague Hill, and we look forward to continuing to work with them. It is great to see these young energetic folks working hard and taking pride in their work. They get a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction in a job well done, and we get great trails. It is a win-win for both of us.
