A major focus of WHOA! is preservation of the equestrian trails within and connecting to the Woodside Trail System. This system, which also includes part of and connects to the Portola Valley Trail system, is unique in the region. The system connects to a number of Mid-Peninsula Open Space preserves, Huddart Park, Wunderlich Park, San Francisco Watershed and other parks and trails in a string around the Bay Area.
The Huddart and Wunderlich Parks Master Plan process of over two years is close to completion. A copy of the plan can be found at www.eparks.net. WHOA! and other organizations have applied major effort to educating the Parks’ management consultants and staff about horses, cyclists, hikers, trails, their needs and the impact of various activities on the use and safety of the trail system.
The Town of Woodside has also developed a position on the Huddart and Wunderlich Parks Master Plan and has presented it to the San Mateo County Parks and Recreation Commission. More information about this position paper.
Whoa! works with and supports other trails advocacy groups such as Equestrian Trails Riders Action Committee (ETRAC).
